Frequently Asked Questions
What is a chimney sweep and inspection?
A chimney sweep and inspection includes a thorough examination of the firebox, smoke chamber, flue, and external chimney structure, accompanied by a written safety report. We perform a multi-point inspection specific to your appliance—checking floor protection, connector pipe condition, wall pass-through installation, flue condition, exterior masonry, counterflashing, and code-compliant construction. Creosote is removed from the chimney as needed.
How often should I have my chimney inspected?
The Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) recommends having your flue swept and inspected annually. Even if you don’t use your fireplace frequently, animals, debris, and moisture can cause hidden problems that only a professional inspection can catch.
Should I be concerned about mess during a chimney sweep?
Not at all. We provide a No Mess Guarantee for every appointment. Our technicians take the utmost care to protect your home from dirt and damage while servicing your chimney. We take pride in leaving your home as clean as—or cleaner than—we found it.
How do I know if my chimney needs repair?
Common warning signs include white staining on the exterior brick (efflorescence), crumbling mortar joints, a damaged or missing chimney cap, water stains on the ceiling or walls near the chimney, a strong odor coming from the fireplace, and visible cracks in the crown or flue liner. If you notice any of these, schedule an inspection before the problem gets worse.
